Why are these guns commanding such high prices?

I have seen them offered for up to $1000 on gunsamerica and only rarely do I see one listed for under $600.

They were not really a great gun, I would say scarcely better than the Spartan guns, so what gives here? Obviously someone is paying these prices, but why?

If I saw a 311 offered for $1000. I would first think the seller probably didn't know much about guns and had paid $1100. for it two or three years ago and needs to sell or he is fishing for someone like the aforementioned soul or I should reread the description to see if Hemingway used it as a canoe paddle on a safari somewhere? Perhaps there are specially made guns worth $1000.00, but I would say generally, if you can get a Spartan for less, buy the Spartan! I am not bashing 311s either!

They may be asking that but they wouldn't get it from me! I wouldn't pay $500 for one NIB, even a .410. JL

I've got a Stevens 5100 16 ga (one of the many predessors to the 311 line) with real checkered walnut. It is my first gun, purchased used in 1954, and I don't plan on selling it, but if it is worth $350, I'd be amazed.
Double guns keep going up, but $1000 for a 311 is insane.
