I ran across a 20 ga NID with 28" barrels. It's in 95% plus condition with perfect bores, good screws, nice color and good blue. just minor useage marks. Price is $3000 which seems high - butI want it. What is an appropriate value?

Thanks

If it has ejectors and a single trigger (regardless of what you prefer or would pay) the gun may be near right on price.

VinnieViz,
I sure understand the want!
But that's more than 2x what I paid for a very clean 12 ga field NID with great dims last year. I thought I paid too much, but "I wanted it" and it was from a dealer I trust. I could see paying a bit less than $2K for a perfect 20, but I'm not an experienced collector. I'll be interested to see what the cognoscenti say.

In American doubles, what someone paid for a 12-gauge has virtually no bearing on the price of a similar gun in 20-gauge! I was in a shop a few weeks ago that had two Model 21s for sale. Both were pre-war and the 12-gauge for $3600 had a slim forearm while the 20-gauge for $8600 had a beavertail. Both had single selective triggers and ejectors.

Here is one with no case on gunsinternational in the 1936-style -- http://www.gunsinternational.com/detail.cfm?id=100039260&string=cid=149

This looks like the best NID deal this week -- http://www.gunsinternational.com/detail.cfm?id=100049928&string=cid=149

The first on is - well - Fubar.

I saw the second while trolling. Looks like a good price. Hard to tell without seeing it.

Unless you've found a real gem of a gun that fits you to a TEE and can't possibly live without it a field NID 20 with two triggers and no ejectors is more of a $1,500 gun than a three grand one.

I bought a very poor condition but shootable one on GB the other day for 300.00 and I also paid 1400.00 for one some time ago and I also way overpaid for a .410 but I had the same dilema I had to have it and I had the money. I wish you the best of luck, they are addicting.

There were three versions of the NID field. If the one you're looking at has the roll stamped dog, it is either the 1st version or the "Star Grade". Both have the "snail ears" cocking indicators, but the Star Model is much the nicer gun.The third version of the NID field did away with the snail ear cocking indicators and the roll-stamped dog.

The 2nd version, the "Star Grade" is the best choice of the three, IMHO...Geo

There were really at least four versions of the NID Field Grade. The first version was from 1926 to about 1928 --

The "Star" variation was in use from about 1928 thru 1934 --

The "New Model" Field Grade was introduced in 1935 and used up to WW-II --

And, finally post WW-II the version with no frame engraving --
