I just received a nice little boxlock ejector by Lebeau Courally.

The 24 bore was neve r widely used in the UK but has afollowing in Europe. does anybody out ther use ne and what sort of successes have you had? I'll probably take it pigeon shooting in a couple of weeks.

How does it compare to the 28-bore and the 20-bore in your experience?

While I have never had a 24 gauge, thus no actual experience, I am Firmly Convinced there is "NO Magic" in any bore dia. The 24 falling between the 20& 28 should thus fall within the same useful range. As long as comparsion is made with same class of loads, IE no "Modern Magnums" it should simply fall between them.

Dig:

I have been shooting 24 gas since 1993, when after many years of beating on Arrieta, they made one for me. They said it was the first one!. I also have a little belgium 24 and I think I have a Beretta sbs in 24 or maybe 32. I have it just can not remember if its 24 or 32 ga. I use the 24 gauge for hunting quail in Tennessee each year. I always have fun with it. Its a great conversation point. Most folks have only heard of a 24, few less have ever seen one. So I let them try it out, they get a kick out of it.

Many years ago, one one of my trips to Italy I puchased some remainng stock direct from Beretta 24 ga 686 o/u. There were 74 of them. I bought them all and sold them in the US.

Here in the US only available shells is Fiocchi.

Stay Well,

I have a Bayard 24 gauge hammer gun that I have used for hunting woodcock. I also regularly hunt woodcock and grouse with a 28 gauge.

Shells are harder to find and more expensive for the 24 and the shot charge available is smaller than for the 28, but I like the the looks of the a small bore hammer gun and enjoy carrying it in the woods.

Have been shooting a Belgian Guild SxS 24 for about 5 years now. Lovely, light can carry all day woodcock or rabbit hunting. Have accumulated shells over the years in 5s,6s, and 8s. Still like my 28, but it gets less use than the 24 hunting. One great thing about it if I enter a clay shoot by gauge I'm sure to be in the top 3 and most of the time no. 1.
