A friend has sent me a cutting from a recent Spanish newspaper entitled “La firma mas solicitada” (roughly “The most requested maker.”) In about sixteen column inches it outlines the life & work of Pedro Arrizabalaga. He has just celebrated his 100th birthday and is photographed, dressed very stylishly, in the main square at Eibar.
Most of the information in the article is contained in Weiland’s “Spanish Best” but there is some additional information – owners of Arrizabalaga guns include the late “Gen. Franco; the Duke of Wellington; shipping magnate Niarchos; former President of Texaco, McKinley; ex-President of Nicaragua Somoza; ex-President of Mexico Lopez Portillo, among many other famous leaders and business-people.”
Pedro Arrizabalaga says that his principal hobbies have been hunting and walking in the mountains. He is careful with what he eats, never eating cold food in the mountains, always being provided with the means to heat it!
Great to hear that the great man is alive & well. ¡Feliz cumpleaños a tí, Don Pedro!
