I just found out that high end French Darne shotguns came with "candy striped" blued triggers. This was apparently to serve as a visual for wear/tear so that the owner could send the gun back to Darne for service.
here is a picture: http://doublesanddogs.com.p4.hostingprod.com/used_guns3.html
Does anyone know if other manufactures offered this feature?

I heard of a Fox with some darn Wiggly triggers....but never a Darn with "candy striped" triggers.

You figure it was like a change your oil reminder ?

I have seen one other with the stripes-believe it was a P series.. I have also never heard of a V16. I thought the V series began at 19 and the p series were 17 and 18 punches. Maybe that "Darne" Ted will be along to fill us in. Regards

He already asked about this on the SSM board and Ted replied and said is was most likely BS.

It looks likes that string is gone now, though.

Kind of odd.

What gives, RDD? I see you're trying to promote your site doublesanddogs.com under the For Sale section. Is this part of your marketing blitz?

I have not seen many but this Darne was surely a high grade and didn't have the candy strip.

They normally don't do much for me but that one was real nice.

everyone seems to have some sort of add on here now, maybe I should get one too.

It would be an clever marketing approach. By adding chemicals you would get your brilliant color. Then when the gun is used the process of oxidation would dull the colors and then, gotta take her in for a tune up. Very sharp indeed.

Those Darne's have all sorts of bizarre and interesting features , but I just can't warm up to them.

I'm not sure why the post vanished over on Shooting Sportsman. Anyway, I don't know for sure about it being BS, but the company made a big deal in their catalogs about Darnes being good for colonial use-and some of the French colonies were truly located in the butt cracks of the world, where a good gunsmith wasn't going to be. So, a feature that would indicate service was due on the gun, when the instruction manual included with it called cleaning "optional" sort of seems a bit out of place.
The picture of the gun didn't look to be a V, by the way-looked like a P, to me, but the barrel flats would tell for sure. And, that's a hell of a lot of money for a P, by the way, if it is indeed sold. Hope Mr. customer has an idea about grading Darnes.
Best,
Ted
