Happened to pick up a CZ Bobwhite SxS in .410 at a gunshop the other day and loved the appropriately scaled tiny frame and the feel and looks of it. But I know all the quality issues that have been brought up on these guns.
If I wanted a .410 SxS that had to have double triggers, straight stock, and a .410 sized frame, are there any other choices at all other than the CZ Bobwhite either side of the $1,000 mark? New or a good used other brand would be considered as well. Anything worth looking for or just stick to the CZ and hope I get one of the good ones?

The search is easier if you will accept 26" barrels. Properly scaled .410's with barrels 28" or longer are scarce. A friend had a CZ/Huglu that he wanted to sell (cheap) but I just couldn't get past the short barrels and the goofy Schnable fore end. I have seen Huglu .410's with 28" barrels but they have always had some feature that (for me) was a deal breaker, such as single trigger or matte chrome frame or ripples in the barrels. I looked for about four years before I found an Aspen Outfitting Ugartechea .410 out of an estate, 28", DT, splinter, English grip, IC/M. I wanted M/F chokes, so I may have this one tubed. The only readily available 28", M/F, DT, scaled .410 that I know of is the Merkel 360, but they are a bit clubby and awfully pricey; very well made. The AyA 4/43 is a nice gun, supposedly available with tight chokes, but nobody seems to have anything other than IC/M or Skeet/IC. They are available with 29" barrels (I think 30" have been available in the past). Uggie boxlocks are the best bargain after the Huglus, and Lion Country Supply may be able to order what you want. AOC's are approaching the $4K level (new) so that probably doesn't work for you. Merkels are generally asking $5K used, but there was one on Guns International for $4K with opened chokes. Cabela's always has a bunch of AyA 4/53 .410's, new and used between $2500 and $3K. AT $1K +/-, it's not going to be easy. You might be able to find a no-name Basque gun with metric 28's (27-1/2"), but you'll have to look for a while.

Replacement,
Thanks for the recommendations. Barrels of 26" wouldn't bother me. How cheap was your friend's CZ/Huglu? He probably doesn't have it any more anyway.
I have looked at both AOC's and Lion Country Uggie's in the past but when I was looking for another gauge, so it might just be a good time to revisit both again re the .410 bore.
Thanks again.

Dave: I think he wanted $600 for the CZ/Huglu .410. Do you want me to see if he still has it?
I have not yet shot the AOC .410, but it sure looks good in the box.

I have a couple of CZ's, a 28 and a 12. They are an awfully good value. I have heard of no problems with the double trigger guns,I had a single trigger 28 that went south. If I remember right, Brad Pitt had a similar problem with a single trigger 28. My 28 has thousands of rounds through it, 200+ today, nary a bobble. Last year, here at the Ranch, we had 2 hunter/guests with high dollar spanish guns that had single trigger problems...So....You pays your money and takes your chances eh? BUT lot less money for the CZ......

Replacement,
No rush to it but ask your friend when you think of it, thanks. I have been checking out all the various sites over this past week and it appears the best I can do on a new in box CZ .410 Bobwhite is $725.

I have Grade II Ugartecheas in .410 and 28. I am very happy with both.

My IJ Skeeter in 410 is nice, the miller trigger is great, ejectors fine the straight stock is classic but the factory beavertail is a bit clunkey. bill
