Very nice to see/read your article on Edward George Parry in the latest DGJ. Daryl's nice photos round out the package.(can you tell us who restored the gun?). I only have a field grade version but it still has a honored spot along with it's 1st cousins(Wilkes-Barres and early Ithacas) in my safe. - Doug

Doug, the gun is not restored. It was a nice find from an old New England dealer. I, too, thought the gun too good, but once in a while one finds a good one.
The DGJ issue is Vol 19 , Issue 1, Spring 2008

Nice little article on poor Edward George Parry, and that was certainly a very nice example of the entry-level Parry which was known as the Quality 1 gun. The Quality 2 gun had a slightly shorter frame, and had a rear-acting under-bolt in addition to the Greener cross-bolt. The Quality 2 was available in Twist, Laminated or Damascus barrels -- Quality No. 2 "T", Quality No. 2 "L" or Quality No. 2 "D". There may be a handful of higher grade Quality No. 2 "D" guns as well. Here are a few pics of a Quality No. 2 "L" --    P.S. in the article the listing quoted from the 1892 SD&G catalogue says the No. A has a "... butter butt,..". In my copy of the 1892 SD&G catalogue that is "... rubber butt, ...". In my 1894 SD&G catlogue they still have some No. B and the price is down to $30.

Your right.
There were about 550 Parry guns built according to serial numbers. They the same gun was built by Wilke-Barre Gun Co. Ive never seen anything higher than a 2 D gun that was marked Parry Fire Arms. I do have one of these guns that is marked Wilkes-Barre Gun Co. that is a high grade. Ive also heard of another one. Mine has fancy wood and checkering, damascus barrels, engraved with flowers and critters.

I got the info on Parry from his obit. in the newpaper after his death.

Bob, I'd certainly rather see one of your articles on obscure U.S. makers then another of the interminable articles on British Gun Auctions!! If it wasn't for you and Austin Hogan there wouldn't have been anything in this issue of interest to me.
I've only handled one other Parry then the one I own, and it was a well worn coach gun with Wells Fargo markings and the dealer had it tagged as a Parker?!? I've seen quite a few more of these Parry-designed hammer doubles with Wilkes-Barre markings. All with serial numbers from the low 1000s to the low 1300s. Is there any feeling as to whether the Quality No. 1s and the Quality No. 2s were serial numbered together or in separate series? Did they restart at Wilkes-Barre with 1000 for the hammer guns or have I just not seen lowere numbered ones?
