I second Larry's opinion. The receiver shape and engraving are quite similar to my JP Sauer that was made in 1953 at the Fortuna factory in East Germany.

I see your new pictures. It has 2 3/4 inch chambers and it was made in January 1954. Nitro proof marks naturally.

By any chance does it have a number 1 inside a triangle on the side of the barrel's locking lugs? If it does, that indicates that Simson considered it a number 1 quality grade.

There was also an "Outstanding Quality"(letter "1" over a "circle" and a "Special Quality"(S in a triangle) with the "1" inside a triangle being "Good Quality". Simson tubes w/ the post 1950 streamlined eagle mark & probably full choke(possibly more) in both. Frame could be one of Schuler's. Probably made under the BUHAG conglomerate. Looks as if it needs a good cleaning and I would guess it would fetch $1000.

Kind Regards,

gguthrie:

That's the "Outstanding Quality" mark, so I'd raise me estimate a touch more.
