Perhaps this might be of interest to some. . . . .
I took some pics of some things I use in ink transfers, and the results.
Top center: I cut the main scroll and leaf lines in a ring, on the left is the ink, on the right a piece of cardstock, and at the bottom a tape pull of the ink I rubbed into the ring.

After I ink the original piece, I use the card to rub off the excess ink. I then apply clear packing tape, and burnish heavily, to lift the ink.

Then I pull the ink with the tape,

And place it on the next ring, and burnish lightly to transfer the ink,

After which I remove the tape, which may be used again.

The finished ring, cut from an ink transfer:

Barry Lee Hands,

That's easy!
Now I understand what James Meek tried to explain in his book.
Thank you for sharing.
Best regards,

Barry, as with all of your work, beautiful. May I ask how long it takes you to engrave a piece like that.

Yes Silver, like anything once you know how , its easy! just work.
Claudio, an astute obsevation, there is some MacKenzie influence there, and influenced by some creative arts stuff a client sent me, not my usual style.
JDW, about five minutes,- just kidding. On something like this I generally dont keep track of time, I bid the job in advance then take whatever time it takes to do the work properly..
Joe- store bought plastic transfer patterns? never seem em- B

Barry, I know many people think we use plastic templates when we lay out an engraving pattern .... perhaps there is also a belief that we also use store bought transfers too. Ken

Ken,

Are those transfers like the tattoos? Just kidding of course but some think the engravers work is easier than real life. Artistry at its finest in my book!

Barry,

While I appreciate the information on how you do transfers I am even more impressed with the wonderfully clean, rounded and moulded scrolls. That is beautiful work!

As Mr Fewless would say "ain't no flies on that"
