If it is a true TRAP GRADE, why is the bottom of the frame not so marked? Surely they would not have removed that when it was engraved. Is it a Custom Trap Grade or a Custom trap gun?

It's a Custom Trap Grade.

The "B" carved stock does not come close to my "B" stock of 1943.Nor do the forends match mine.My gun is a flat side also and has a small Monte Carlo .Does the top rib say "Custom"? The engraving does not look to be Winchester. However,it is just my opinion and means nothing as I am only making a comment.

On the top rib of both barrels reads Custom Built By Winchester. If you have the book by Ned Schwing on model 21's page 125 has the style of B carving that my gun has.

I have a 2 barrel M21 20 ga. which letters as "Skeet" grade gun, and has the longer forearm consistent with a Skeet grade gun, however, the bottom metal is not stamped "Skeet". So much for Winchester quality control!

I have the book as bought in 1994 ISBN 0-87341-157-9 and have noticed a number of faults in it.As of p125, you will notice 1948;mine lettered 1943 is of the so called later pattern. He is of the opinion that p124 is later than p125.Something is incorrect.Mine ,bought from Don Criswell, some years ago is thought to be original.

The 1957 round frame 21 is in the "Custom Built" era. I believe this era follows the very short "Deluxe Grade" era. The B carving on the pictured gun is, in my opinion, an aftermarket checkering job. Mr. John Durkin would be the person to give it a personal inspection and pass judgement if it is important to identify the wood as factory original (or not).

I did misread this post and thought that you said it was a Custom Grade. So, I apologize for that. During the time that your gun was made, Nick and John Kusmit would have been the only (in house) engravers. The engraving on your gun doesn't look like their work to me. The engraving under the receiver by the pheasants doesn't look like any (standard)Winchester engraving I have ever seen. The deep (oak)scroll-work on the receiver doesn't look like something they would have done. I would like to hear Ken Hurst's opinion.
