I've purchased a few blanks over the past few years, but am definately far from being very knowledgable!
I've tried to educate myself to a certain degree by reading about and looking at different blanks, mainly via the internet.
What is the criteria you experts look for in choosing a blank? At this time, I'm looking for a blank for a straight grip shotgun.
I also see on some sites, blanks for pistol grip shotguns and those advertised for straight grip shotguns. To tell you the truth, I don't see why some of the pistol grip blanks wouldn't work for a straight grip and visa-versa. What is the difference?
Thanks, Cameron

Cameron, for stocking a straight grip gun, and particularly a sidelock, whether hammerless or hammer, it is pretty critical that the grain through the grip and head is clear and parallel with the grip.Because the grip is so slim, and so much wood is removed in this area, any cross-grain or knots etc. is inviting a problem down the road from recoil and just general usage.
Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought stupid, than open it and confirm.

Cameron, please see example of proper grain flow through the wrist on an english grip gun. The figure in the butt can be of any preferred "style" ,in this case curving down toward the toe ,others may prefer grain flow curving back toward the heel or marblecake/burl and on , but correct grain flow thru the wrist portion is crucial ( unless the gun uses a drawbolt). best regards JBP

I cannot speak for England, but I know that there are suppliers in Spain, up in Basque country. If you desire, I will try to track down their website. Regards
