I sounds like the one barrel has excessive headspace. The 12 gauge rim area on the subgauge tubes was machined to a standard dimension and the one tube could be driven deeper into the worn chamber by the firing pin fall. Shortening the firing pins probably reduced the tendency of the subgauge tube to move forward but will not allow the pin to strike a 12 gauge shell hard enough to go off consistantly. Briley is probably going to machine the barrel(s) for headspace rings to bring the gun back into spec.

Hello Bill,

"Briley is probably going to machine the barrel(s) for headspace rings to bring the gun back into spec."

I hardly think so. If it were my gun I would not let them touch it. They have to make
a new tube to fit the barrels/chambers/ejectors and not the other way around. JMTC

Best.

Hello Bill Layman

Your reply makes sense to me. I have seen shotguns and pistols with worn chambers that were restored to shooting condition by boring the chambers and brazing or sweating inserts that brought the chambers back to size.

This gun was not in a worn condition. I had the gun refinished because of light scratches on the right side of the stock.

I can see where Briley comes out ahead by changing the chambers rather than building a tube set to fit a 1972 gun.

Since then, I have had a K32 bbl fitted with choke tubes that went back and for $75.00 the chokes were reamed out to close to the proper size. I am done with Briley.

JayCee, I am not "doubting Crawley". Crowley, (not Crawley) is not whom I doubt. It is Briley. There is nothing in the installation of a Briley tube that requires any modification to the barrel or firing pin if the gun worked before it got to Briley. All adjustments for headspace are made by making the rim of the tube either bigger, smaller, thicker, or thinner. They shouldn't be touching a $20,000 shotgun to adjust for their $100 tube. Get serious. By the way, Bill L., what is a "headspace ring"? That's a new one on me. Briley has never messed up a gun for me and they have tubed a bunch of them for me.
