Terry, the bores are large all right but the 10ga chamber gauge would not enter the damascus barrels. I must admit I did not look for possible chamber sleeving. Good tip for anyone looking further at this gun. It has just been screwed with too much for me.

Are we perhaps confusing the two guns. It is the Schuler gun that has the stamp on the stock and not the Lindner gun. I agree that the Lindner gun is a late 19th century gun. If it has the crown over pistols mark, it is 1891 and before. The mark was changed to HAL over pistols post 1891/1892
Our first trade law that required the name of the country of origin was in 1891. It was in 1921 that it was changed to Made in Country.
From 1891 onward, this must be on anything built for importation into the US.
I, also, have never seen this placed on a stock. On guns, always on the water table.
As the gun was obviously built to be exported to America, I cannot fathom a reason that the stock was stamped.
I agree that this particular example is over priced.
Best,
John

Jerry, I believe that you are correct about the butt stock, it is not original. I also believe that the forend is not original although it may have been made a a different time from the butt stock. I don't see the ejector eyes that you normally see with Lindner ejector guns, the checkering pattern is wrong and it is missing the horn forend tip. I should sell them mine so at least they could have part of the gun wood correct.

Mr. Mann:

Well, I stand corrected as it is not "we" that wasn't on the same page, but "me". What is your souce on the 1921 date as an act or tariff event, as I have read info from German Stein collectors that the "Made In Germany" mark commenced around 1912?

Kind Regards,

When one becomes an old fart, as I, one forgets many sources of info.LOL
I think I have known this for most of my life as it was/is a good point in dating antiques. I have been involved with old stuff for way too many years.
It is also true that old men can so very easily confuse themselves. I could be corrected and be sent to stand in the corner.
Best,
John

Doug, I did notice the forend lacked the tip, but I should have caught the escutheons missing too. Thanks for the heads up. Is there anyway to check for the chamber sleeving of a 12ga insert in the 10ga barrels? I am pretty well convinced that is what happened now.

Doug,

Horn has always been black in my experience but the Lindners horn is brown. Do you know of any other makers that use brown horn or is this unique?
