I just noticed a 28 gauge VH on Cabelas website. I have been looking for a "real" Parker 28 to shoot quail with for some time. This gun is a "0" frame, I would prefer the "00" like my Repro's are. It has been refinished. I'd like to hear opinions on the "value" of this, and/or what I can hope to pay for a 28 ga. 2 3/4" gun.
Also ideas of where I might look other than the "usual" places.

That gun is very expensive. I also wouldn't get too worked up over 00 frames myself but...

Which one are you looking at? There are two refinished 28 0 frames in the Cabelas library, both of which are over 11,000.00.
The one Parker doesnt look right to me. The colors dont look like Parker colors and the barrels look to be polished brighter than the factory Parker 320. Maybe its just the camera and photos. As for prices, Ive never seen a V grade 00 frame factory original in good condition for much less than 10(dealer or personal sales). Minor variances such as unique bbl lengths, single triggers, etc, will fetch even higher prices. Take Chuck's advice and look around, take some notes and record some phone numbers and prices. You might just find the Parker of your dreams at a fraction of what most dealer will be asking.

A VHE 28ga.OO frame just sold locally for $14K. Little colors--80% blue. Unaltered and matches the serial number book. It did have 28" barrels and good dimensions. Guns with conditon will bring 17-18K or more!

There is also another one at Cabela's in Hamburg, Pa. Was in there today and it is a VH 28 ga. don't know the frame size or the barrels length but it is original finish. I believe the price was $12,500. It's not listed yet, but you can call the store and talk to someone if interested.

Thanks to a certain someone who writes frequently in the Double Gun Journal, Damascus guns are being appreciated more than ever. I greatly enjoy his articles, but I would say they have educated more people about Damascus which increases their prices. If the gun is in good shape and has good bores it would probably bring just as much, if not more then a steel VH. I do not have my Parker books handy but for some reason I dont think many Damascus 28s were produced, further increasing the asking price.

Fred, if it's a 0-frame, it may have been rebarreled from 20 gauge. Check the serialization book before you commit to it.
