O.K. for Damascus Guns?

I have been loading for damascus guns for several years, and my favorite load has been AA hull, Winchester 209 primer, 23.5 gr. IMR 7625, RXP-12 wad, with 1 oz. shot. Pressures are around 4500 PSI. I have recently started shooting trap, and am loading (for my Ithaca 5E SBT) AA hull, Winchester 209 primer, 12.8 gr AALite, Winchester 12L grey wad, with 7/8 oz. shot. IMR site shows pressure at 5500 PSI. Can anyone think of any reason why this would not be a suitable load to shoot in my damascus guns also? Thanks. Bill

Bill,

That sounds like a fine load. That said, I would not recommend that you shoot any load in a vintage gun, without checking the gun out. Ask your self some guestions. What load was the gun made for? What is the barrel wall thickness? Is the gun on face and bolt? Etc, etc. Do all the research that you can. Read the "Finding Out for Myself" series in DGJ. At the end of the day, it is you and you alone that must make the decision.
