I've got a Parker that I've had for years now, but thought I'd do
something with finally. It's a VH from about 1902, and it's in good
shape overall, except for the buttstock that needs to be replaced.
Now, if this was 25 years ago, I'd just send to Fajen for a semi-
inletted stock like I've done for a few other guns in the past. But
you can't do that anymore. I sure miss Fajen. I could sit and look
at their catalog for hours. Anyway, is there still somewhere that I
can get a semi-inletted stock for my Parker, or am I going to have
to start from scratch? Ron

Ron,

There are several places. One of my favorites is Show-Me Gunstocks in Warsaw, Mo. (Fajen's old home). Contact info:
Donnie Gemes
Show-Me Gunstocks
PO Box 97
Warsaw, MO 65355
(660) 438-4568

You can send them your wood (I always have)or purchase the wood and the blank direct. They will duplicate from your stock or use their own form.

Ron,
You have a lot of options still.

One way is to take what's left of the original stock and build it up into a pattern that can used to have duplicated (see pic). But that requires that the head inletting of the stock be in decent shape. The rest (broken wrist, etc., can be screwed and glued back together. Short stocks can have blocks added, Bondo, etc.. I believe our member "SKB", does stock duplicating services. These types of services can now provide an extremely close "almost fit" which doesn't require a whole lot of time to get a good fit. You can also build up the stock to fit you perfectly.

Another way to go is to send the gun to the likes of Wenig for a stock that is rough shaped and "headed up".

But just buying a machined stock from some other gun's pattern will mean the stock duplicator has to leave a lot more material in the inletting, causing you more work and you don't get your dimensions either.
