I recently saw an interesting gun and was looking for info and opinions. This is a very dainty hammer double with full coverage engraving in mediocre shape.
left barrel stamped Weipert
right barrel stamped Vinzenzo ?ahlert
forend fastens with a steel lever and the breech sides overlap the barrels.
The right lockplate has an engraved hound and scroll
The left lockplate has a fox and scroll
The bottom of the breech has grouse and conifers
The barrels have a double lug configuration and a rounded dolls head extension.
The grip cap and but plate appear to be horn.
The stock has a raised cheekpiece.
The barrel flats have some proof marks that I could not read in the dim ligt except for 16.2 under each barrel and npw.
This is just a request for any help to satisfy my curiosity. Peter

Peter, sounds very Germanic the 16.2 is the barrel diameter in mm, it would be .637 and that is 18ga?? More than likely an undersized 16ga or an oversized 20ga. the NPw is Nitro powder proof at Weipert , Austria- Hungary. Pictures would tell us a lot more.

Peter:

It is a Bohemian Double proofed in Weipert in probably the 1899-1919 time frame or the 1919-1931 years. There could have been a date stamp/proof house # on the barrels as I have seen it on rifles. There should have been a double headed eagle or a lion with a number. Although, the 16.2 by straight forward calculation would be an 18 bore, it was possibly a tight dim. 20 bore.

Kind Regards,

Raimey

Not sure what you have seen, but with raised cheekpiece is something from Central Europe.
Lets not forget the gems from bad ole' USSR!

PS. If not for 650bar 12gax70mm marking that piece could be easily mistaken for something from Suhl or Ferlach. Please note how lovingly shallow the depth of that action is. Very unlike most Germanic ones.
