I need help identifying this gun/gunmaker. Informations seems scarce to say the least. All I have been able to find are a couple of auction prices in drillings that are marked Robert Hubner, however, I cannot find any info on the gunmaker.
Need info on a 16 ga double in 80-90% range, possibly better. Left barrel is marked "Darmstadt" and right is marked "Robert Hubner" although the "u" has two dots above it. It also has Nitro and Bohler Stahl markings which I can identify. Has a good bit of seemingly high end engraving. Very good looking and unique bone trigger guard that has been damaged and unprofessionally repaired. Choked cylinder and light mod.
If anyone has any information at all on values or the gunmaker please let me know as I have come up empty handed.

Can't say for sure without looking at the gun or some good photos of both the action and the barrel flats markings, but this may be the retailer, not the maker. It was common to mark a retailers name and his city of business on the barrels as you have said. Can you post good close-up digital images and describe as well as photo ALL barrel flats marks?

Thanks for the help - I have yet to purchase the gun largely due to my lack of knowledge of its value and, therefore, do not have any pictures. However, it may be possible for me to get them in a few days.
You're explanation for the markings I described is correct as far as I am concerned, and I had found Sporthaus address as indicated by Petrov.
I hope to get pics as I would love to ID the gun. Do you have any ideas as to the gunmakers that would have been supplied by this retailer that would fit the description?
Also, I failed to mention that the gun does have a Greener Crossbolt.

The cylinder and light mod chokes would be very uncommon in an original gun. It's quite possible the barrels have been cut back to eliminate some of the choke, or the chokes could have been opened up. If the barrels were cut, even slightly, that tends to lower values considerably. If the original barrels have had the chokes opened, well, that's not so bad, if those chokes suit your style of shooting. Check that carefully. This retailer could have bought guns from any gunmaker he wanted to and have had his store name and address engraved on them, very commonly done. Still need more info to identify the gun before it can be valued. You could have found either trash or treassure.

tnwestes:
If there is crosshatching at the end of the tubes, it hasn't been cut. True, TC and light mod chokes are odd, but I have seen a couple of German 16 bore sets with similar chokes. Mr. Apel at GGCA(German Gun Collectors Asso.) has some blanks for horn trigger bows. Which "Nitro" proofmark does it have: Austrian, Czech, German,....?
Kind Regards,
Raimey rse

tnwestes, lots of good advice from the group, most importantly be sure those barrels are uncut. You may want to see how long the chokes are as well as checking the chambers. There will be more markings on the water table and barrel flats that may help and will probably show a date (like 436= April 1936) as well.Lots of things will also determine value, cocking indicators, over hanging sears, scroll back action and set screws securing other screws to name a few along with that high end engraving you mention. What is the barrel lengths ? Is it tight and on face with forend off? LOP ? Double trigger? I suspect like ChiefShotgun that they may well be cut(that CYL/LTMOD) and agree that hurts value a lot. Whats the ask price? Looking forward to seeing pictures Dave K

Thanks again for all the help!
I will try to get as much info as possible as well as some good pics this week if I am able. You all are a wealth of info for a new and young doublegun enthusiast.
The seller (who is a gunsmith and a friend but not overly knowledgeable in the area of European doubles) has said that it is Belgian made. However, he doesn't know much at all about the gun, but I think he would have noticed a cut/modified barrel and mentioned it as well. I tried to take a look at the nitro proof but couldn't make it out without a magnifying glass.
Having said all that, I am actually pleased to have found the gun at all and especially with barrels choked as these are which suits me well for quail hunting.
Thanks again - I'm excited to have found this site!
Will

Dave - missed your reply before I posted my last. Of all your questions I can answer only a few. It does have double triggers, I think the barrels are 28 but possibly 26, asking $1000 down from $1600 two months ago. I spoke to him when he first got it but wasn't able to view it until this past week. He is ready to move it as it's been collecting dust for a couple months now.

Hi Will, that "may" well be a good deal if,the big "if" is if those barrels are uncut and chambers where not lengthed by a plumber, and its on face and not wood not butchered.Barrels are most important, everything else money can make right. One other though it be sure to ring those barrels. Go on G/B and A/A as well as some sites like Bob Jones to get and idea of asking prices for similar guns.If he drops it that much he is either desperate for money or knows it has a problem.
