I have an A.H. Fox XE Grade 16 gauge that has a beavertail forend, skeleton butt plate, and selective single trigger that letters to this gun. The gun later had a set XE 20 gauge barrels with beavertail forend added. the barrels are marked Philadelphia with Savage proof marks. If a second set of barrels are added by the factory was it always recorded?

No. All that seems to have survived is about 85 to 90% of the original production cards. From everything I've been told when I inquired, no record of repair or retrofit work has survived.

Are you saying that you have a Philadelphia era Ansley H. Fox double with a beavertail that letters? I've long heard that they exist, but I've never seen one. Please post many pictures here and at the Fox Collectors web site -- http://foxcollectors.com/My%20Forum/phpB...ded5931d22a9026

A set of retro-ftted barrels and forearm with a Philadelphia roll stamp on top the barrels and a Savage proof on the flats smacks of something Mitzie Bielin might have done in the 1970s after Savage quit servicing Ansley H. Fox guns.

Egerton, you have come up with two wonderful guns. I hope this is not the end of your sharing of your finds.

Mitzi had a lot of barrel sets of various vintages. AFAIK, the were mostly unmarked (no stamps) and unproofed barrels in the white. I had a couple sets of them years ago.

He could have done this, or they may have been done when the shop was moved, using a set of barrels from Philly that were already roll stamped?

Nice gun.
