thats great aziz...whats your Q? If you post some nice closeups of action sides, bbl & action flats with stamps & a few general pics, I'm sure we could give our opinion as to grade, condition & perhaps rough $$$$....that might be around early 1940s without looking it up. They made many sideplated BLs that at first glance look like SLs,,,does it have a half dozen or so pins going into the lock plates? I love Feancottes, especially the older ones..is yours marked VL&D on BBLs??? Throw up some ink Man!!! cheers franc

aziz, Franc Otte missed your question regarding VALUE, but his suggestions to you are right on...need photos to evaluate & date. Franc Otte is far better informed to help you than I, but everyone here would like to see your Francotte. If you don't know how to post pics, ask and someone here will direct you with a "how to" tutorial.

You own one of the finst Belgian Doubles around. Depending on the model, they can be as fine if not finer than England's best. I have just discovered Francotte in the last few years. As other's said, get us a picture of flats and receiver ASAP and we should be able to help.

Aziz,
I have just completed digitally photographing and indexing the records of the Francotte shotguns sold by VL&D between 1901 and 1929. Unfortunately, your serial number, 89363, does not appear in the VL&D records. Perhaps it is an Abercrombie and Fitch gun - if so, I may be able to tell you the model and date of acquisition by A&F. That information should help others give you an idea of its value. I hope to begin the A&F records later this week. The serial number information on this website suggests a mid-forties gun.

Bob,
Great to hear of the progress on the VL&D records. Unfortunately my VL&D Francotte (1897) is just outside the dates you listed. Do the earlier records exist?

dblfever,
After 1923 the records have a pretty complete description of the guns in inventory, although there are exceptions. Yours (81857)is listed as a grade CC in early books which became a model 30 by the 1920's. It was placed in inventory in 1924.
I began this project 2 years ago while employed by Griffin & Howe, a paid advertiser on this site. Although my intentions were good I simply did not have enough time back then to respond to the many inquiries that were made. I retired last May and G&H has very generously allowed me to pick up with the records where I left off. Hopefully we will soon have a mechanism set up for owners to request letters and photos of the records of their guns. I don't wish to hijack this thread but I want Francotte owners to know that information is, or soon will be, available.
