What was the standard configuration for safeties on the Ithaca NID Mag 10? Specifically, were they automatic or manual?

The reason I am asking is I have one and it is a manual safety. My other NID's are all automatic safeties (expect for the time when I was a teenager and disabled one by taking out the little rod – dumb kid).

The reason I ask is if the standard is automatic safety, is I want to have the automatic safety reactivated if the gun is set up for auto and either it has been modified by the removal of the "little rod" or it is broken. I have not taken down the gun to look and frankly would like to know the standard configuration before I take it apart.

If the culprit is a missing "little rod", does anyone know where a replacement can be obtained?

PS: I used it this past weekend on a dog drive for deer. The two deer I killed (Fed 3.5 OO Buck) dropped like bags of rocks. I will admit, I missed on the first shot on both and piled them up on the second shot.

Marshgrass: NID. #500322 has an automatic saftey and NID. #500422 has a Miller trigger and no automatic saftey. Both guns are still part of the shooting world, and work well. David Lien

Mine has an auto safety, I prefer a manual but not enough to mess with one. If the SN helps I can post it tonight.
Mine still hunts regularly for ducks with 2 7/8 or geese with 3 1/2 or shorts.

Mine has auto safety also. I like it for hunting guns but not for clay target guns. I will leave mine as is. Looking forward to taking a few geese this year with it in a few weeks.

Walt or Researcher will know for certain, but I'm pretty sure they were auto, unless ordered manual..MDC

The one I used to own 500167 was automatic. All three of my single trigger NIDs have manuel safeties. At one time I know A.H. Fox Gun Co. advertised that their Fox-Kautzky single selective trigger was the only one with an automatic safety.
