No, don't think it is. If it's original and predates the cut-off period (currently 1957) it would be eligible. A WWII Garand rebarreled to a different caliber would not be eligible, IMO.

There are a lot of FAQs on the ATF website. You might find your answer there, rather than hang on the phone for a long time. I just sent my application in yesterday. Called for the application package on the 18th and it arrived on the 22nd. Be interesting to see how long it takes to get the license.

My understanding is the same.If orginal and pre 1957 yes as soon as you alter it its not. Also,a Garand reciever by itself (using same example) is not C&R.
Doubt calling them would be any help. You caould also ask here I suspect you will get same reply.

The above answers are correct. Additionally, a firearm originally manufactured in or before October 1957, is automatically a curio or relic based on it's age.

The big thing to remember with the C&R license, is that it is not an FFL.

Kind regards,

Gentlemen
You are patterning perfectly. Just talked to a lovely young lady from the local ATF office who listened, said she would check it out and call me back. Within 15 min. she did just that. The Federal Firearms Regulations Reference Guide covers it precisely on page 160. She surely was no "jack booted thug". In fact she sounded more like the daughter my wife and I wished the Lord would have blessed us with.

Funny mine says Federal Firearms License (03)on it.I think you meant its not a "dealers" Federal Firearms License (01).Its is an FFL but not the same as the dealer, pawnshop, manufacture ones. They are all FFL's thou.

As to how long it takes for a new FFL it varies, but I wouldn't look for it for at least 90 days.
They have been very nice and professional to me everytime I have called as well.Of course things may change if we have a "madam president" in the future

Dave,

You are right, that's what I meant. Non-Dealer.

Kind regards,

Roughly two months in my case. I have an internet-brewed "bound book" but nothing in it. It's pretty funny how many ancient clunkers I bought prior to getting it (25$ a pop for FFL receiver) and how few I find to my liking now. However, I'm certain I'll find something inside the 3-yr. period to amortize the the 30$ fee. Waiting on the Lefever that goes out the door when another comes in, Jim. Oh, make sure which police authority is your Chief of local law enforcement before you file. It varies a bit. I thought it was the County Sheriff and indicated same on application. I discovered subsequent to filing that mine was State Police. I wrote a letter to BATF asking for revision on that item. They were very non-bureaucratic about it; made the revision and sent the license.

I would also like to add that my phone experience, when asking for the C & R application package, was very polite and pleasant.
