On my F grade Lefever I have an loose screw that keeps coming out. It has been suggested that I use lock tite" to keep it in place. Any comments on this

Choose your locktite wisely. They are not all the same. I'd choose one that you are able to remove.

There's been alot of that going around here lately..

I have a Purdey hammer gun that has individual lock plate screws after extensive shooting at the range I noticed them loosening up...at the advice of someone that knows more than eYe...I took them out cleaned the 'heads of the screws'...and the 'holes' in the lock plates real good with Acetone.
I then put a little Super glue on the 'sides of the screw heads' not the threads and screwed them back in...they haven't backed yet.

Years ago while attending S&W Armours School, they told us to use clear finger nail polish. Have been using it for the last 30 + years with no problems. Cheaper than loc tite and no worry about what color to use.

Be VERY selective about the type of Loctite, if you use it. I had a smith "fix" a semi stripped tang screw on a Lefever 16, and it was the devils own job to get it out. Stuck to the wood and everything.

one of key points about using locktite, in addition to the good advise above, is you only need 1 drop. Go with a small amount and use one you can easily remove. Another good piece of info about locktite is that it breaks at about 300 degrees.

You can use the purple (least hold) or blue (medium) locktite; never use the red. The latter is for a permanent bond. The others will loosen OK by a screwdriver. Nail polish is OK. Super glue usually does not work well on metal.

I use blue locktite on my cowboy action guns, especially the Norinco 97 which will unscrew if you look at it wrong.
