The Conestoga Gun Auction was held on Friday, Oct 12, 2007. A few nice guns were included in this auction. An A. H. Fox "A" grade SXS shotgun in 16 gauge with 26 inch barrels of Krupp steel, sn 300305, sold for $1575.00 plus $157.50 plus $103.95 tax plus $5.00 tax for a total price of $1841.45. A COLT 1883 12 gauge with cut off barrels but in pretty good condition overall sold for a total price of $966.95. The barrels had been cut back to 28 inches. I was shocked to see that Colt SXS sell for such a high price. A side plate LeFever "G" grade 12 gauge with 30 inch damascus barrels in good condition sold for $646.30. This was some kind of FEATHERWEIGHT LeFever. I have never seen one like it before. It had very thin barrels. There was a very nice L C Smith hammergun with the SYRACUSE butt plate and 30 inch damascus barrels. Conestoga had it listed as a 12 gauge but in fact it was a 10 gauge. When this was pointed out to the management of Conestoga Auction they took no action, they did not care. There was a Winchester bolt action rifle that was also misrepresented in the auction, it had been rechambered. When the rifle was sold they did not even verbally warn the bidders about the rifle being rechambered. Once again it was made clear that if you are going to an auction you had better go early and look close at what you might bid on. You need to read THE CONDITIONS OF SALE very closely for all of these gun auctions. Once again it was a real eduction. Good Shooting To You All, Jent.
