Well hankyorke, it is a PH grade and appears to be twelve gauge. It has seen a lot of use judging by the position of the top lever and the screws but seems to have been relatively well cared for. Serial number 101XXX was made in early 1901 but without more pics and the complete serial number we can't tell you a whole lot more about your inheritance.

Serial is 101612 the 12 is a best guess the plate is fairly well worn... What would you like pictures of?
Thanks again

Hope you cherish it like your Great Grandfather did. Has damascus barrels, so in shooting it I would use some of the low pressure shells out there and stay to 8,000 psi and under. Also would be a good idea to let a good double man look at it.

The book shows it was made with 30" barrels, are they still 30"?

The 1899 Parker catalog shows Quality PH with 'Fine English Twist' barrels, which is what those appear to be. I'd be even more cautious regarding load choice. Neat legacy hankyorke-let us know what part of the country you're from and we might be able to recomend a doublegun specialist smith near you for a good check and clean as David mentioned.

It's a cool gun, though as far as Parker's go it's not one of the more valuable Parkers.
When you say the butt is not original, I assume you mean the buttplate? If so, it is an original type so unless it has a non-matching serial number or something I would think it is original.
Assuming the barrels have not been cut and they are in good shape inside it is probably a $700-1000 gun.

It would also appear from barrel thickness at the breech-end that it is a #2 framed gun. As mentioned before, have it checked out by someone who knows these guns. With the lever to the left like it is, the gun is likely a bit loose. Take the forend off the gun and shake it. You'll probably feel a wobble. That can be fixed. I'd also recommend having the top lever spring replaced.

They are "good" indeed. Take it apart and take pictures of the flat part of the receiver and any writing or markings on the gun. Before long, these guys will tell you which guy at the factory put it together and what he had for lunch. Jake
