I am writing from Kyoto where I am studying Japanese engraving, Culture and religions for a short diversion from my usual routine.
Just before I left Montana for my retreat in Japan I engraved this big bad blade for a mountain man friend of mine.
It is almost blackpowder hunting season and now he is properly attired for the field.

The Style of scroll is taken from a Rifle I had the good fortune to examine recently, a mint, cased, Manton sixteen bore rifle made in 1819. David Trevallion had it in his posession and allowed me to study it.
The first pic is the piece in the sheath, then the bolsters and then the rivets holding the scales.
