I took the James Purdey 12 gauge bar in wood shotgun out today was able to put some ruffed grouse on the ground with it. The gun most often is more fun or interesting than the game you shoot with it… ![[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]](https://i.postimg.cc/QxhJVn9Y/IMG-3845.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]](https://i.postimg.cc/zX8F3Pbt/IMG-3859.jpg)

understated elegance. There was a time when I thought if you own a Purdey it should be a self opener, but I have changed my view and lust after a hammer gun a friend owns.

I really like the early Purdeys(great book too!), the percussion era rifles were spectacular.

Every time I see a beautiful gun resting on a rock for a photograph I cringe.

Great Purdey bar in wood. My 1912 outside hammer bar in steel, Whitworth barrel pigeon gun is not as pretty, but a bit more on the rare side. I would kill to own a nice bar in wood, but I'm a bit late to be looking.

Eightbore, I as well shoot a 1911 Purdey bar action hammer pigeon gun. Mostly at Helice these days

Pretty sure he's referring to what rock does to steel if it is unintentionally mishandled, not the photo process... JR

I have done photography for years and had plenty published.
