While shooting a dove tower yesterday, one of my hunting partners was shooting a Browning 525 O/U and after about 60 rounds, the vent rib fell off. No one noticed a thing till the damn thing hit the ground. He finished up without the rib and it did not seem to make a bit difference in his shooting. The gun is relatively new and has not been subject to a high volume of shells.

I need a recommendation of a smith to reattach the rib properly and quickly. Would prefer someone in the southeast. He recognizes the gun will not be available for the opening of dove season, but would like to have back for some of the season or at the worst by Thanksgiving, for the second season.

"properly and quickly" are words that usually don't go together in gun repair.

How new is it? Should Browning fix it free? This is not a low cost project but Browning is not known to be fast. You might call Art's he knows Brownings and could give you a turn around time.

Thank you all. This forum is a wonderful community of people willing to share their knowledge and experience.

My friend is opting to return the gun to Browning. They have told him 5 weeks. Based on what I have learned here, I have told him if he sees the gun before the end of the year, count himself lucky.

Returning the gun, probably still under warranty, to Browning is probably the simplest, easiest, cheapest way to go. Unfortunately the St. Louis facility is not known for speed! Also the provenance of the gun will be maintained that way. Best, Dr. BILL
