has certainly gone up. I have had a bunch and still own a couple but while looking at a 28ga I can't help wonder if they will keep their value better now. Any thoughts?

Buy used. Have someone else take the depreciation.

Just like a car. Drive it off the lot and you lose 20 percent. Buy pre-owned and save. Many folks really worry about loosing money if they buy a gun, not sure why.

If I wanted something truly custom, made for me from scratch, I'd have one made...but I enjoy the process of finding something used that's close and making it mine more.

...and I don't care one tiny bit what it's worth when I'm done. That's a problem for my daughter to deal with, and since her cost basis will be zero...it's win/win.

Buying used is almost always the better option. Advantages are numerous. Obviously cost, often quality. One often overlooked aspect is that it’s unfortunately not uncommon for a made to order item to not end up exactly as you want. Another is time when a bespoke gun can take 2-10 years to get built. Most of us are at an age where “time counts”.

The other side is that as we get older and more experienced, our desires get very specific. Some of the guns Ive had built have simply never been done before.

I’m not commenting regard Spanish guns specifically as I have little experience with them. Owned a few but not much use of them.

I will say that except for a few experienced gun traders, guns should not be considered an investment. Experienced gun traders don’t have guns built.

almost all my doubles were bought to be used, not as an investment. I still try to consider if an item is fairly priced. More recently I weigh whether I want to wait for a lower priced item or spend the $ and enjoy it while I have the time.
