KY Jon: In a way, I have to agree with you. It would be far better to have the opinion of a man that will buy one and learn his comparison of it with other near like offerings. To amplify my agreement, I offer the following. I have owned about 60 automobiles. Many bought new but most bought as collectibles. At one time, I owned 19, and almost all Hudson and Cadillac. I was the President of the New England Chapter of the Hudson, Essex, Terraplane Club of America. No consummate expert on these cars, but a man with a tad of knowledge. Enough knowledge to offer an opinion on them even if I were not in that market at the time. So one would think. But, you are correct. I really should have held my opinion to myself. I fear that a member of the BBS has read and has given some credibility to my foolish statements. For you guys and possible gals that are still awake----Please heed this warning. My posts are simply my opinion and are to be taken for what you paid for them.LOL Best, John PS---Jon: You are still the man and my friend. I got your point and hope that you got mine.:}

I hope they sell half a million of these guns. Might open up a few eyes among the bean counters who seem to make all the decisions at the gun makers these days.
John I meant no offense by my previous post to you or any other poster. If you took it as such please accept my apology.
BTW, you did not have a '48 or 49 Hudson did you? You know the one which looked like a hearse before they figured out what a hearse should look like. If so I have a funny story about one I came across.

The '48 Hudson was the first of the "unibody" Step Down style cars. This was the Hudson body, with the 308 engine, that still holds the NASCAR record for consecutive tract wins. I think we should take this off this thread, tho. Let's do this as emails. These old rump sprung cars is a far cry from related subjects for this thread and board. That is unless you consider fast cars, fast monkeys (Hudson Race History) and good, very good whiskey, a fit subject !!!LOL Best, John

I recently shot the Smith double, again. When I shot it back in November, they had some terrible writing in large gold letters on it. I see that the gun is better looking, now. The ones I have shot had nice wood, but I saw one in Brian Bilinski's store which had very blond wood. Strange.
I'll be at the S&W plant this morning, and I'll ask about that wood, and the triggers.
Yesterday we were at Ruger. This afternoon we visit Beretta. Tomorrow it's Benelli.
No free sample, though!

Tom--Please do report on the trigger issue. Both Bruce Buck and I, with separate "test" guns, encountered very heavy pulls. (I borrowed the one Phil Bourjaily had, and he also commented on the triggers.) Frankly, other than the triggers, I thought it was a pretty decent gun. Bruce said pretty much the same thing in his Shooting Sportsman review.
I think the issue that still has to be overcome is the fact that the guns are made in Turkey. (What did we used to think of guns made in Japan? Spain?) Most buyers seem satisfied with the inexpensive Turkish doubles from CZ and DeHaan. The question is, how many are going to pay three times as much for a Turkish gun that says S&W?
