Replacing Lefever Spring Retaining Screw

To replace the top lever spring retaining screw on Ithaca Lefever Nitro Specials use your hacksaw frame (if your saw doesn't have length adjusting notches, make a bar from any scrap steel. BB)

The center notch is just the right size to drop screw through after you have compressed spring.

(As I sat here the thought came to me - how about putting strong nylon cord on one end of saw frame and hooking it to back of vise. Then you could compress the spring with one hand, leaving the other free to start screw. Might do the trick... BB.)

The assembly tip posted above is just one of many tricks and trade "secrets" that professionals use all the time to accomplish jobs that may be difficult or frustrating. Learning how to do just one of these jobs without doing further damage or losing a spring or other critical part can easily pay for the initial cost.

I made one from a piece of scrap steel. I put a hole in one end and a loop of sturdy wire thru it.
I place the loop of the wire around the ball knob of the vise handle. One end or the other of the vise handle seems to always come up in a position to take it securely.

Makes getting that thing back together again easier but it's still a pain to assemble..

Seems like I use that on the Flues model Ithaca as well. Same set up.
