I have a Simson Jager double barrel shotgun manufactured in 1937. I need a set of hammer springs. Any suggestions on where I can get a pair?

They can be made from spring stock if you're handy with tools. There are tutorials available online. Dixie Gun Works probably has some generic springs that could be fitted. The alternative is finding a smith and it probably will take some time to get the job done. I'm not a gunsmith but I've made mainsprings and top lever springs. The hardest part of the job is getting the tempering correct.

I am just getting the gun transferred to me (comes from my father). In a 10 day waiting period. I will post pictures of the action once I can. The springs were "lost" when my mom sent it away to have it "refinished" when I was a child. Long, sad story. Looking online, I remember something similar to some springs I see for an Ithaca gun seen here.

You know, there just aren’t that many gunsmiths around here in the U.S. that will offer to make you professionally hand made gun springs… In fact….most will turn down the job, even for something like a top lever spring. Kudos dblgnfx, that’s a very nice offer. You always seem willing to help folks out.

It would seem the hardest part of this particular job will be getting the correct dimensions since the OP's springs are both missing. That makes the job of making a couple from spring stock much harder.

Simson made quite a few guns. I'd say the best place to start would be to try to find at least one used mainspring for that particular model. Certainly a pair would be better. Start by checking Numrich- Gun Parts corp., and other gun parts sellers, check Ebay, and try to find European gun parts dealers. A gunsmith that specializes in German shotguns might have spare parts.
