Do you think it is possible to bend a stock so that the heel which is now 1 3/4" will get to 2 5/8". the wood is fairly straight grained English walnut

Not likely, that is a very large bend and drop is harder to bend than cast. To account for spring back you will need to push that stock well over an inch down, too much in my opinion.

Where does that 3/4 of an inch radius change come from?
It sounds like you’re turning a 1930 gun into a 1910 gun.
If it was a pistol grip, I would say double no.
Out there doing it best I can.

please... Better to make them useful for the current owner than leave them unusable, beat up and in poor condition.

Well that was pretty much what I thought. I've bent a few stocks but none more than a half inch. Yes its easier to bend for cast than for drop. And yes it is a pistol grip stock. I wanted to get some other thoughts before I told the owner it would not be likely.

please... But, holding the tip of an acetylene/oxygen flame to the action long enough to cause horrible looking frog eye spots is okay.

I have had several stocks bent. Without exception each has fully reverted to the original position.
The dimensions the above stock have now are probably better than the proposed change.
If I ever need to change dimensions again I’ll simply glue wood on the existing stock and cut it to fit.
