Trip To Brescia Italy. It stands to reason that is you are on this board you enjoy nice shotguns. Well if you and you significant other are looking for a nice place to visit I can recommend a trip to Brescia ( Val Trompia ) Italy. Naturally you have many of the most famous shotgun makers there which many you can visit. Some like the major ones speak good English, the other smaller ones do not. But aside from going to the gun makers and maybe buying one, the place itself is beautiful. There are of course beautiful churches, museum, the lake is close by and well the mountain region is great.Nothing like driving around the mountain region to see the wonderful sights. Venice is close by too.
I would suggest renting a car to get around and you are much more flexible. If you have never been to German or Italy driving can be intimidating. Keep the gas petal pushed completely to the floor and you will do fine.
The food is great, but of course Italian food is my favorite.
I will almost guarantee you will enjoy it.
John Boyd
PS: My first trip was in the 80s. AT that time there were over 100 companies that were making guns. Many just working out of their homes and a few guns a year. I think most are gone now at least some that I visited. Too bad
Fly into Milan. Rome too congested. I gave up driving in Rome.

How’d the EES go for you? They ask for an IDP at the car rental? Usually fly into Ramstein and take a bus or train to wherever we are going. Certainly a beautiful part of the world. Family in Lucca and Pesaro.

We just returned from a trip-cruise to Italy and the Mediterranean. Stayed in a little guest house in Rome, toured Naples, Pompeii, and attempted to locate my grandfather village. Food was over the top, people were super friendly and generous, and the ruins et al., were, well, all that you can imagine.
Driving in Rome was like driving in downtown NYC, congested, bumper to bumper, and crept at a snail’s pace. Their interstate, so to speak, is like ours, fast and direct but the high speed trains are the way to travel from city to city. Inexpensive and fast. We went to Florence by train from Rome, stayed overnight, and went back. Weather was a moderate 75, dry, sunny, and pleasant. Plan on returning.

I have not visited Italy in a very long time. I would like to see the village in Sicily that my mothers family originated from. The food, the art, the history....great place to spend some time.

I made a number of trips there. Never had to do an international drivers license. Always went through a rental company called Kimel or some name to that, maybe Kemil?. Always rented the car at the airport in MIlan (malpensa)
Drove all over Italy both in the north and south.
Nice hotels in downtown, also stayed a few times right in the gun making region ( V. T. )
Always found things to buy, not just guns.

Sicily in on our bucket list. The cruise ship passed through the straits of Messina at dusk, narrow, swift current, kindled thought of Odysseus, with Etna is the background, smoke rising from the crater. The straight was busy with ferries from the mainland moving back and forth. Thought we heard the “sirens.”

It’s worth going to Rome just to stand in front of the “Ecstacy of St Terese”.
Out there doing it best I can.

My wife and I are probably going to Italy this October. Neither of us have been before. We are going to focus on the northern part of the country. I won’t be doing any hunting, but I always like to learn about hunting and gunmaking in different countries. Is anyone familiar with the types of game in Italy? Or how about regions of Italy where hunting traditions remain strong?

Just do not know about hunting in Italy. What part of northern Italy are you going to?

We will focus on the north - Milan, Lake Como, the Dolomites, etc. We don’t have an itinerary yet, but those are some of the places we want to see.
