I really appreciate the step by step on that.

I didn't expect it to be that old with the 2 3/4" chambers.
it did not have 2 3/4" chambers when it was first proofed - the 12 over C in the diamond would have been marked 12 over LC, indicating long chamber.

There was no chamber mark prior to the 1887 Rules

Under the 1887 - 1896 Rules gauge over C in a diamond was used for 12g chambers 2 1/2”, 2 5/8” & 2 3/4”; LC is 3" or longer

I couldn't find the mark used for 20g and 16g greater than 2 1/2"

1896 - 1904 Rules LC indicates 12g chamber 3” or longer & 20g or 16g 2 3/4”

Birmingham date code 'T B' - 1968
London Proof 2017
Bore 13/1 = .719" - .728", then .729", then 18.7 mm = .736"

Do you think that's a "T" rather than an "M?"

Are we're thinking three trips to the proof house?

You're the 2nd one to mention that.

Geoff: your gun was proved twice, and I believe the Birmingham date code is a 'M'
Argo's point is that in the absence of a shot mark the original London proof is 1887-1896.
The problem is that some early proof marks are lost or marked over with later re-proof

Lloyd's gun was proved 3 times, and the Birmingham date code is pretty clearly a 'T'
