I have a 20 ga BR 550 with 30 in barrels and to balance it better I put lead in buttstock, brining it up to just shy of 7 lbs. Great for clays, which is it's primary use. I think they are great guns, but a tiny piece in the forearm broke, which is required to cock the ejector springs. I had it replaced. I don't think it is a coincidence that a friends gun broke the same piece. He is still waiting for replacement part.
Now my question. I am thinking of taking out the ejector springs, basically converting the gun to an extractor. I think this will drastically reduce the stress on the subject part and won't adversely effect my shooting. Other than it being difficult to return the springs, I don't see a downside. Am I missing something?
