I have a Dakota Arms Legend... well I think it is. My dad passed.. he was a big collector. Don't know the history of the shotgun. It's a 12ga SxS. Beautiful gun. It's in a silver case. A stamp on the bottom of the shotgun is 50-1997. I can't find how to post images so this is a link to what it looks like. I posted this on a different site. https://www.shotgunworld.com/thread...d=5262831&nested_view=1#post-5262831

Nice guns. If I recall correctly, they were built for Dakota Arms by the Italian maker Ferlib. There's a two-barrel set Legend on Guns International now for $11,999. Who knows what it will sell for. Your best bet for value is to check online gun sites (e.g. Guns International, etc.) for listings of similar guns or recent sale prices.

I think the “Legend” was the round action that was made by Ferlib and designed by Ivan Tanfoglio. That was the high end of the Dakota line.
The gun in the picture has thru lumps and looks more like one of the SIACE built guns for Dakota.

If it isn't a 'Lengend', what would it be? I called Transwest & they want $45 for them to 'try' & look up the serial number.

Please do not be confused. This gun was not built by Ferlib. I was the imported of Ferlib for many years. Was at his shop, eat dinner with him and was at his house. The higher grade guns that dakota had were originally built by Ferlib. Later they used a less expensive maker. Ivano who I met at Ferlib shop worked for him. When he retire Ivano tried to keep the business alive but failed. Ivano then when to work for B Rizzini in the custom shop.
I am not say by any means that you do not have a nice gun. Its just not the the quality of a Ferlib

Sounds like you want money, not the gun. Cabelas gun rooms around the country will buy for cash but give a 20% discount on value based on condition. Caution. I purchased a "grandpa's" gun from a Cabelas store in WI. I got it for less money than the former owner had in into the gun. The seller must have gotten a pretty low price for the piece. There are other options to sell: Gunbrokers auction site and GunsAmerica (not an auction) for two.
Suggest you visit a really competent gunsmith/dealer before you do anything. People on this site will help you find a 'smith/dealer if you give your location.
Good Luck!
