I’ve had this shotgun for a few years, hunted it and shot some clays with it. It is an extremely nice original 1860’s cartridge firing gun and still tight and on face.

I shoot 2 1/2 inch shells in it, they are not easy to find, but a delightful gun to shoot…

That is a beautiful hammergun. Did you shoot at the Hill Rod & Gun Nimrod event?

Kind Regards;

Shrapnel;

No, I was not there but I notified my friend Kym in Billings but he was not able to go. He just received from Scotland in March of this year a pristine 1874 back action peninsula lock Alfred Lancaster 12 bore hammergun with damascus barrels original to the gun with .034" min barrel wall thickness. I was hoping he would be able to attend so that he could meet some of you other vintage gun shooters. He has been a bit upset of late as his fishing and grouse shooting cabin is in the middle of the 240,000 acre forest fire in Manitoba.

Kym sent me a photo of the Alfred Lancaster and if you would like the photo PM me with your email address and I will send you the photo.

Regards;

Stephen Howell

Hammerguns and sporting clays are great fun as they add extra dimensions to the experience.

I'd been attempting it lately with an early LC Smith D-grade, and even more recently with an early Ithaca NIG. Also, I'm almost always the only "kid on the block" doing it when I go.

Damascus tubes and external hammers only make it better (in my mind).

I have an earlier gun (a Lang, even older than the lovely Daw here) but it's too-light IMHO for this sort of use (fine for upland hunting but not for targets).

The American guns are much heavier here, roughly 6, 8 and nearly 10lbs respectively (the Ithaca has 32-inch tubes).
