On my way back to the family reunion (in N. Carolina) from a little side trip, I stopped in to the Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Talk about "old school", this is a truely lovely place. A "Grande Damme" from another time, they still have shooting and fishing on the list of manly entertainments available (for while staying there). Their sporting room has some interesting taxidermy, namely ruffed grouse (not something I see often). They also have of tour there of the gigantic "congressional bomb shelter" that became useless when a loony-left reporter ratted it out to the world, but that's another story.
Headed home today.

Some photos... ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](http://i.imgur.com/AcphHmlh.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](http://i.imgur.com/YDVBqGfh.jpg) Not hard to figure out why our congress wanted to hide-out there. Very nice setting in a very pretty part of the world. The famous Broadmoor (here in Colorado Springs) would be comparable I suppose, but they no-longer have a shotgun range (they used to and by all accounts it was quite spectacular). A very "high-end" resort and quite lovely, by all accounts. All it takes is time and money, eh?

Have not been to the Greenbriar. Have been to the Broadmoor several times and it darn nice. Spent a Christmas there. I do remember the sporting clays range. It was fantastic, was on a hill.
If you get a chance to stay at the Broadmoor, give it a go.

Mount Weather and The Greenbrier are two different yet related locations with a history of secrecy and emergency preparedness. Mount Weather is a government-run facility designed to house high-level officials in case of a national disaster, while The Greenbrier is a luxurious hotel that also hosted a secret bunker during the Cold War. Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center:
Location: Bluemont, Virginia. Purpose: Serves as a relocation site for top civilian and military officials in case of a national emergency, ensuring continuity of government. Key Features: Includes a nuclear-blast-resistant bunker and sophisticated communication systems. Functionality: Houses FEMA operations and coordinates federal responses to major disasters. Secrecy: The facility is known for its high level of secrecy and security.
The Greenbrier (Bunker):
Location: The Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Purpose: Originally intended as a shelter for members of Congress during a nuclear attack (Project Greek Island). History: The bunker was built in the late 1950s to early 1960s, but was never used for its intended purpose. Decommissioning: The bunker was decommissioned shortly after its existence was revealed by the media in 1992. Current Use: The facility is now used as a data storage facility by CSX IP and is open for tours as "The Bunker".

Thank you for that Mike!
Long story, but my bride and I once spent a weekend down at the Broadmoor several years ago now (25?) through her work, and it was opulent in the extreme. Unlike anything I'd ever experienced before (or since).
Somebody else was paying so...why the heck not, right? I'm afraid I'm too-frugal to do something like that on my own nickel, but... I'd jump at the chance to do it again (as long as somebody else was picking up the tab).
I believe the total bill for that last "weekend visit" (& all the pampering) was something like $3K and I'm fairly sure it would be a bit more now. $5K for the two nights and 3 days wouldn't surprise me a bit.

If the current day Liberal Left Media had their way, there is no doubt in my mind they would gladly travel back in time to reveal D-Day Invasion plans to Hitler. None of us hate them enough.

Somebody has to support quality, or there is no need for it.
The world is full of beautiful places just waiting to be enjoyed. Thank God there are people willing to come off it to do so.
Out there doing it best I can.

Mount Weather and its purpose were no secret to local residents and those who were housed there during training events. Another such facility in Montgomery County Maryland was just as well known to local residents. Both were relocation facilities for government workers during any emergency. The Greenbrier bunker was for members of congress, much farther up the foodchain. As such, it was a secret for a long time.
