As we enjoy the Holiday weekend and our freedoms, let us remember those who sacrificed for that privilege. Let's keep them in our prayers. Wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable weekend with family and friends!

Thankyou Karl!

I'll be "up Nort" working on the place, fishing and and getting it ready for grousemas.

I think I heard my 1st drummer tonight.

I wonder if all towns, all over the country, put up white crosses lining Main Street(s), with the names of the fallen like is done here in my area of the South. Each year as I ride the streets I slow a bit so that I can read the names as I pass each cross. Relatives, friends; many unknown . . . . . but none unappreciated by me.

May we never forget. So glad that I live in an area that remembers.

May God bless America and those who defend her.

I’ve seen it, but, it is more of the little towns and hamlets in my part of the world, Stan.

I always find it a bit sobering.

Best,
Ted

When I was a kid delivering the town's newspaper and making my rounds to collect from subscribers, I remember seeing stars in the windows of quite a few houses. I asked my parents what they meant. Turns out they went back to WWII. One color star represented someone serving in the military. Another color for someone who'd died in the war. Very common in my hometown 50 years ago.

Larry,
I'm reminded of that, as my neighbor 2 doors down displays a gold star in their front window after loosing their son in Iraq. A sobering sight.

In my little town we have a monument at the courthouse with the names of the war dead from the whole county. They include family and friends. Our American Legion post will lay a wreath at the monument on Memorial Day.

It is sobering, especially when its a hunting and a fishing buddy or a family member. "Hometown Heros" seems to be a theme back in rural Pennsylvania these days, with photos of the "heros" on a flag of sorts. Since I know where his flag is flown, I detour over to see him every spring in that part of his hometown.

I used to kid him about not getting a bridge named after him.
