I was wondering if someone out there has the book on L.C. Smith production records? I'd be willing to the buy the book if I could find it at a reasonable price? There is one available for $200.00 in the U.S.and two available in India. All I am looking for is just two small pieces of information re: my Trap Gun.

Yup, love mine but trying to find out production details about my 10ga. No one seems to have the elusive production records book, so I'll keep looking till I can find an affordable copy.
Thanks.

Carl: "L.C. Smith Production Records" is available directly from Dr. Jim
https://lcsca.clubexpress.com/content.aspx?page_id=22&club_id=43784&module_id=246316

The records were included in our article in the DGJ, Volume 23, Issue 2, Page 39, 2012
There were only 12 10g Trap Grades manufactured; 9 with AE

A Research Letter would have details regarding your gun; DOM, configuration, to where it was originally shipped and possibly the purchaser

Carl there were 12 Trap Grades made in 10 gauge, 1 had 30" barrels and 11 had 32" barrels, 9 had ejectors none had the Hunter One Trigger. Most had Crown Steel barrels and some had Damascus barrels especially on the 10 gauges until 1921 then all were Crown Steel. Made from 1912 to 1940.
This information is from "L.C. Smith Production Records" by James Stubbendieck. If you go to lcsmith.org you can scroll down on the left and see what is available. You can also get a Research Letter ($75.00 non-member price, member $50.00). If you join the organization it cost $50.00 yearly. The letter increases the price of the gun if you decide to sell it. You might also be able to buy the book directly from Mr. Stubbendieck.
Good luck and let us know how you made out with your 10 gauge Trap Gun.

Easy enough: order a copy through your local library inter library loan, and photocopy what you need.

Thank you all for the information above. I have the answer to my questions thanks to you. My 10ga. has 32"crown steel barrels, and now I know how many were actually made. In the big Smith book"The Legend Lives" it says 25 10ga. were made. That's misleading. Does that mean there were 25 receivers made but only 12 were finished as guns?
Yes it will go up for sale but not just yet. The information is useful and will aid in the sale someday...maybe my kids. My main concern is that eventually it go to someone who will value it as I do.

Houchins "L.C. Smith: The Legend Lives", published in 2006 mostly used Lt. Col. Brophy's estimates, some of which were published in "L.C. Smith Shotguns" in 1977
Marlin Firearms Co. gave the original shipping ledgers, reportedly rescued from a dumpster by Brophy, to the McCracken Research Library at the BBHC in Cody, which were placed on microfiche.
The LCSCA acquired a set of these microfiche records in 2008 and Dr Jim converted them to PDF files and used 2 computers to exam each line and enter the information on another database - more than 500,000 shotguns; now sorted by grade, gauge, barrel length, options, DOM.
So Dr Jim's information is a. the same as Cody's but more refined and b. the best we have. Unfortunately some shipping ledgers were lost.
