Another one that has been lying around my parts drawer for years, about time to try an ID it.

Wood w/o iron 8.1" long, wood at iron end is 1.46 wide.

Serial number is 176787 which could be an early Flues. Also notice the "R" stamped in the wood by the iron.

Would that width for a 12 gauge?

Any thoughts about the R?

Flues. The Flues guns I've seen are marked 12R

Flues. I would guess a 12 or 10 ga. I had a graded 16 Flues and a graded Minier 12 handy and both were under 1 3/8". I want to say the 'R' might have been the woodworker initials... but that might be wrong.

IIRC the 'R' is a mark that indicates the gun was recv'd into the Ithaca Repair Shop.
It doesn't tell you anything about what the problem may have been nor any repair done there.
I think it was stamped just as the gun was recv'd and even before it was passed along to any of the Service Dept 'smiths.

Seems Walt Snyder posted that info on older threads when the same question came up.
