Made strong to last long. I prefer them without the horn triggerguard because they are prone to breakage in colder weather. They are well made guns and will outlast all of us. Far as value, its probably ok in that great condition.

I could do without the horn thingy, the cheekpiece and the engravings of Pterodactylus on the side.
Why do so many of them look like that?

Thanks guys for the feedback, I think I will let this one go as not much room for profit in future, but always good to learn. In my WWII militaria hobby its always interesting to see what was brought back by our vets! Not much demand for dinosaur engraved firearms.

I just ran across this forum trying to find information on a Sauer & Sohn/Geco 12 Gauge I recently acquired. Following my search, this thread topic came up and I viewed the posted pictures. The pictures looked just like mine with attention drawn to the red recoil pad. I compared mine to the pictures and realized I have this actual shotgun. The information posted is really helpful and I would like to learn more about what I have. The condition of the wood and bluing is excellent for the age of the gun. Is there a specific model or grade of this particular gun? Searching, I can't find any comparable models with the wood inlays in the stock and forearm or color case heavily engraved receiver. Any help is appreciated and I look forward to participating in this forum.

GECO was a gun store about like Sears, etc
The history of Geco (Gustav Genschow & Co.) began in 1887 when Karl Gustav Adolf Genschow founded the company. Geco started as a weapons and ammunition wholesaler, but has since become a major ammunition brand.

Hi ellenbr,
how do you know it´s been to the Proof Facility in 1938? I only see the Proof, which means its been there before 1939. Is the 13/1 indicating the date? If so, would love to know for my personal betterment.

On the stamps, & even for ones like >>Nitro<< which has a relative position with time, each proofmark has a very specific location due to the pedantic nature of the Germans. Looking in the mirror too with a Coonass in the corner.
