Shooting yesterday my friend's Boss O/U would occasionally not fire the bottom barrel. On the Boss O/U the top barrel always fires first. It would dent the primer and even eject the shell. It would not always happen. What is the cure?

First thing to do is clean it. Take it from there.

It could be the ammunition tolerance is off for that gun. Try a different brand and put a little rubber band under the rim of the brand that fails to fire. Thin rims. Could be soot around the firing pin too, as above.

I’ve had this happen before. Had the firing pin regulated and no issues since. Consider the angles involved in the OU lockwork pushing that pin at a sharp angle. A small pin adjustment can make a big difference if switching ammo batches/brands doesn’t fix things.

Owen -- how do you regulate a firing pin? I haven't heard of that before. Who did the work?

I agree with you on the angles of the Boss OU firing pins. They don't agree with a lot of modern ammo.

The ignition issue is a common problem. Same with extraction, especially on vintage guns.

He is using B&P Comp1 shells. They seemed to work best for this problem.

Beesley had a solution to the angle firing pin in an overunder.
