I need to know if it is safe to wash gun socks?
I had a bunch of them in a cardboard box that got wet in a basement flood.
I am not sure if they can be washed, then whether to hang dry or dryer, lastly if they need to be be retreated with silicone and if so what brand of silicone?

I think you’d be better off throwing them away and buying new.

I'd wash them in Woolite or similar, rather then detergent. They will probably lose most of their rust preventative properties, but still useful for guns in a safe with dessicant or GoldenRod.

If you want the silicone that comes in the socks I'd throw them in the dumpster and buy new ones. I'm all about saving stuff and making it last, but for about $25/ea.? Nah.

Has anyone ever objectively tested siliconized gun sleeves to see if they make the slightest difference with corrosion?
I have my doubts since the silicone is not actually on the metal, but it would be interesting to see someone actually test them.

I use them on all my guns stored in the safe and never had issues with rust.

Alas my guns do not have feet so I have never found the need to buy socks for them. Though given the very changeable British weather if it will make more accurate and I miss less socks for them all will be on my Christmas present list.
The only lessons in my life I truly did learn from where the ones I paid for!

I use them on all my guns stored in the safe and never had issues with rust. I never use them in my safe and I don't have issues with rust - but that is not an objective test. Have you ever measured relative humidity inside and outside of your gun safe with a goldenrod inside? I have and it does not show any measurable difference. But I use the goldenrod anyway
