No one is still saying what kind of gun it is. You could get a buttstock off of the internet - maybe at a pretty reasonable price. Then he could save the original buttstock to replace if he decided to sell it later on. That way he could cobble up the 2nd one to fit him. Not a big deal. Good luck.

On two guns with the same drop at face but with differing drops at heel , such as mentioned in an earlier post, one with 2 1/8" another with 2 1/2".... the gun with the greater drop will have the most FELT recoil

I'm assuming that as long as the drop at face is the same on both guns, the drop at heel won't mater?

I disagree with your comments about DAH not mattering. It depends upon the type of shooting you do. I see a ton of British guns with 2" or less at heel, fine for shooting incomers from a peg but terrible to mount in the field on flushing birds.
You are spot on about drop at face and POI though.
Steve Absolutely! Especially if those birds are flushing in dense cover, vs. the Great Wide Open. In other words, the effect of drop at the heel will be most pronounced in the ruffed grouse woods. I have found this out the hard way. Pheasant and prairie grouses are much more forgiving if it takes an extra moment to get your body wrapped around your gun appropriately.

You (or at least I) cannot do that quickly enough for a flushing grouse. But I can force a "fit" with many guns if I have time.

You are talking about adapting to the gun as you mount it. I am talking about being adapted to the gun before you take it out into the field because you practiced with it. .

I vote for idea on shaving the comb to the correct height for you. I've done it on more than one gun. But first, shoot the gun at a steel patterning plate (w lead shot) three times from 16 yards. If you bring the gun up and fire at the plate w/o aiming deliberately as you would if patterning the shot load, the pellets will tell you where that gun hits for you. Treat the comb accordingly...
