I enjoy reading the opinions on this MB and gleaning knowledge from the participants and now I have some questions regarding a recent sxs that has come into my possesion.

Here's the info: "New Model Ithaca" in scroll on receiver, 30" twist bbls, boxlock hammergun, serial No. 68118, 12 ga, choked full/full.

I acquired this well-maintained gun from a Mennonite who stated it was his great-granfather's gun. Based on the little info I can find, I think it is not an Ithaca Baker model, but a hammer Crass; perhaps someone can confirm this? There is no visible patent date on the water table, but there is an "A" and "12". (Quality A, perhaps?).

The gun has about 10% cc, bbls very good, wood very good, original hard rubber butt plate. When you cock the hammers, you hear a nice "snick, snick". I like this gun!

Any info that can be shared such as year made, model, etc would be appreciated.

The NIG replaced the Baker designed hammer gun and was made concurrently with the Crass, Lewis, Minier, and early Flues Model Ithaca hammerless doubles. Circa 1915 they brought out their "Two-Bolt" Model hammergun, kind of a hammer Flues with coil springs.

It is probably stamped "New Ithaca Gun" rather then as you reported it. Please correct me if I am in error. Made about 1902, A Quality is the lowest grade selling originally for the $35.00 range. It should have Twist Steel barrels.

I have a "beater" condition New Ithaca Gun, circa 1903, 16 gauge with 30 inch "Nitro Powder Steel" barrels.

Hadn't shot the gun in several years, but had accumulated a bunch of "experimental" 16 ga. handloads, mostly loaded with Pyrodex (Black Powder Subsitute) and some with Unique and 20 ga. wads.

My club now offers 5-Stand in leiu of Skeet two Sundays a month.

Had a blast today shooting 5-Stand with the Pyrodex loads, weather conditions were on and off light rain so lots of stinky smoke. (BTY -Pyro is stinkier than BP). Busted 'em pretty good except those retched trap targets (combo skeet/trap range).

Not only was I the only one shooting BP, I had the only 16 hammer double on the line today!
