I've had 2 German guns with Greener side safeties... 1 Sauer and 1 Otto Bock. Also a Francotte. They are unusual on european firearms. They take a little getting used too but I like them because I carry my guns over the shoulder and standard safeties tend to rub the webbing between my thumb and forefinger.

A tang safety blocks the sears, a Greener safety blocks the hammers, which some people consider safer.

Most tang safeties block only the triggers.

Mike.

No Greener safety I’ve ever worked on (English guns) has ever been set up to block the tumblers/hammers. The Greener safety blocks the trigger blades from moving.
Same thing with Tang safeties. At least on the ones I’ve worked on….also just block the trigger blades from moving and engaging the sears.
If you have pics or diagrams showing these safeties actually blocking movement of either the hammers or the actual sears, I’d really like to see them. Thanks.

Dustin

LeFusil,
No diagrams. On reflection, I can see how they would have to block the trigger blades on an A&D action but can block the hammers on Blitz (trigger plate) actions, common on drillings.

Like I said, I’ve never seen a Greener side safety block anything other than the trigger blades on any FP, a&d, or trigger plate. Admittedly, I have NEVER been inside a drilling. I didn’t notice that any of the guns that were being discussed in this thread were drillings. I’d still be very interested in seeing any action where either the Greener side safety or a tang safety blocks the movement of the Hammers/Tumbles or sears. I’m always up to learn about new solid info.

I started this thread about my Sauer 1908 model 8. When the Greener site safety is in the safe position, the triggers do not move at all. Hope this helps.
