I just saw a Baker three-barrel gun, 10 ga., 44-40. I'd say it is 50% overall. I don't know for sure if it could be shot, or just become a wall hanger. The guy said he was going to sell it, but I didn't have a clue what to offer on the gun. Would it be worth more even if it can't be shot, just because there were so few made? Appreciate your help. George

George, so many more details are needed to even throw out a guess. Why is it beleived that it can't be shot? Metal badly pitted? Loose? Stock broke? Pictures would help.

Let me have a go at the question of value. Is a '63 split window Corvette that has a stuck motor worth more than one that runs and drives? Would an Invincible that cannot be shot worth more than one that can be shot? This is not meant to be unfriendly. Just a lead in to my thinking of rarity on the market place. If there be a one of a kind item, there is no reasonable way to determine its REAL value. The are no comparisons to judge by.Easy to determine worth if two deep pocket guys wish to fill a collection hole. False value. Perhaps a valid worth. Worth is not synonymous with value. Think about it. Being worthy is not the same as having value. That hair must be split when thinking of adding any material item. Should also be considered when voicing opinions.:} Oh Well. You long time members know me by now. Turn those horses loose !!!!LOL Best, John

Dave, I saw some pitting on the outside of the barrels. I didn't want to show too much interest until I did a little research. I'll check it out closer, and, if I end up buying it, I'll post pictures. Thanks. George

They are not that rare. They pop up on the auction sites quite a bit. This one sold: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=73093357This one did not: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=75518481I would think the home "checkering" job kept that last one from selling. It was an interesting choice of cartridges. They knew full well that the 44-40 was available both as a regular rifle / pistol load as well as a shot load. So in effect, you were getting a gun that could serve multiple purposes with the 3rd barrel. Pete
