This is probably a long shot…it’s worth a try though…
Is any member here a “local” friend or acquaintance of Steve Hutton’s? If you know Steve, you live close by, or maybe even see him on a regular or semi regular basis etc., please send me a pm, I’d like to talk with you, Thanks!

You are talking about Mr. Hutton that worked at Churchills?

Years ago, I had him repair my Henry Atkin Spring Opener. It had a broken left cocking spring. Like a Purdey spring. He kept it for a while and at times he was hard to get in touch with. He would always eventually return my calls. There was a guy here on the forum that lived close by and went over to see him from time to time. He finally got the spring made and replaced. Said he would never fix another one. He was a great guy and we had conversations when he would call me back and I got to hear a lot of his days at Churchill's. He did have a web site at one time but cannot seem to find it now. Good luck and let us know if you get in touch with him. Oh I may have a copy of his bill in my stuff I saved for the Atkin.

Did he work for Jim Austin at New England Arms back when they were still in business? He's certainly in the right part of the country. I think I met him there very briefly, but that would be about 25 years ago.

Hutton repaired an old English hammer gun for me many years ago. Told me it would take several months, which became two years. We spoke briefly initially but he did not respond to emails or phone messages as time wore on. I finally called Jack Rowe, who originally recommended him. I came home from work a few days later to see the message light flashing on the phone machine. Hutton left a message that said the gun was almost finished and I should have it in the next two weeks. UPS dropped it on my front stoop ten days later. Never had any interactions with him after that.

Same with me on the Atkin. He very seldom would answer the phone but would always eventually call back. I would get worried about things at times. But he came through and delivered the Atkin back fully repaired.
